LA noir; good reading for a city with a great literary tradition.
The books I recommend reflect the enormous literary power that Southern California has to offer. It is a region steeped in a rich history that goes back to the 1930s onward. This region always attracted writers from all over the world, lured here by the movie industry, they realized a never ending daily drama that happens right out their windows onto the sun drenched streets and canyons that teem with human drama. Southern California is the end of the continent, there is nothing beyond but ocean. It is to this day great fodder for writers looking for that great story twist.
Driver -James Sallis
Blood Brother - Peter Craig
The Winter of Frankie Machine - Don Winslow (surf novel)
LA Rex - Will Beall
Ask the Dust - John Fante
Tales of Ordinary Madness - Charles Bukowski
