Book Soup Event Proposal Criteria 2006-07
Thank you for your interest in booking an event at Book Soup. We have a very busy event schedule almost year round, so please take the time to get familiar with the criteria used to narrow down the hundreds of proposals that come in each week.
Book Soup only books events within six weeks of the original pub date. Yes, some exceptions are made...but rarely does this happen, and it's usually because the author can bring in an extraordinary crowd.
What's an "extraordinary crowd"? At least 100+ people.
For all non-celebrity events, Book Soup requires authors and/or publishers to submit a direct invite list (in Excel). If you don't have at least 100 addresses of friends, family and/or colleagues, chances are it will be difficult for us get enough people in to buy books and make the event worthwhile for each of us.
For all events, authors and publishers are required to assist in covering promotional costs related to each event. This gets your event listed in our store newsletter, our LA Weekly ad, displayed in our store windows, and promoted on our web site. Promotional costs to authors and publishers range from $100-$300 depending on the event. No partial promotion is accepted. If your event is booked, you can't pick and choose what types of promotion you'd like in order to cut costs. On the other hand, if you'd like to pay for more exposure, we're obviously more than open to implementing additional promotional tactics.
If you do not fit all of these criteria, chances are your event might not be a good fit for our store at this time. If you have further questions, of course, please feel free to ask. We're here to help, sell books, and have a wonderful time doing it.
Sincerely,
Tyson
