“SOulfully You” is about creating a safe and comforting space within any environment you or your child may find yourselves in. The meditative practices presented in this book encourage adults to tap into their own “inner child” and participate in the process especially during those challenging times when the child may be experiencing mental, emotional, or physical distress and need to feel a sense of safety and re-grounding. Readers are taken through a series of practices and directed to tap into their senses and identify various sounds, objects, and smells. Through these activities participants are able to explore their imagination, go to places of familiarity, safely push their comfort zones, and arrive at a renewed place of clarity and peace as a team - deepening their bond.
“SOulfully You” wants all readers to feel seen, felt, heard, understood, and loved no matter their background and feel free to show up authentically as themselves in every way- flowing through a variety of affirmations to round out the mindfulness exercises and bring the readers to a greater place of feeling more like their wonderful selves again.
Note from the Author: I encourage you to be as patient with yourself and others as you can moving through the exercises, seek to understand, and step outside your comfort zone to connect with all that makes you “SOulfully You”!
About the Author
Chanel Ray is an up-and-coming creative writer and portrait photographer whose passion for storytelling came at a young age. As a biracial child raised in an area with little diversity, she found herself struggling with both her racial identity and sexual orientation- searching for avenues to express her thoughts and experiences, while also seeking places she could see herself properly represented. This, amongst many of her life’s journeys, inspired “SOulfully You”- a book turned proactive set of exercises that go beyond the words on the page- creating a safe space through simplistic, yet imaginative meditative practices for both children and adults alike. Grounding, re-centering, and exploring your “inner child” with your own… free yourself to be “SOulfully You.”
She is now an aunt to a beautiful niece and nephew and lives in Los Angeles with her partner, professional photographer Stepha Dansky.
This book brought me to tears as an adult who is nurturing my inner-child. To clarify, tears of joy. I wish this book for every child in the world to get to the heart of your soul. Children are overstimulated with so much information, and even as adults, it’s difficult to simply be and look inward. Chanel teaches us to see the beauty within. Her meditative words are able to turn what may seem as a challenging reality, into a peaceful grounding exercise. Chanel takes us through simple steps to find focus, while sprinkling moments of joy and celebrating uniqueness. Joshua Roberts paints a beautiful journey with extraordinary representation in his detailed illustrations that are so powerful, vibrant, and joyful. As an Asian American woman struggling from childhood trauma and never felt like she belonged, I whole-heartedly recommend SOufully You as a must for every home!
